Entertainment mogul with over a decade of industry experience. Also known as "Versatile G", Garrett got his feet wet doing commercials for Forbes top 100 companies such as Children's Hospital. Now he coordinates events with top worldwide brands and manages top tier talents.


1.  How did you get into talent management?

I used to be an artist myself. I knew how hard it was to make connections in the music and entertainment industry. I wanted to help the people around me increase their market values. I wanted to help them get to the next step in their careers. I started to use my own personal connections to help some of my peers get ahead and pursue some of the things they had always dreamed of doing.


2.   As a talent manager, what specifically do you look for in a person you are interested in managing?

I look for talent, I look for potential in an artist or influencer. You can tell if someone really wants to work hard for their goals or if they just want to play around. My job is to help people get to the next level in their careers. It takes time to see what works for you as a creator and what doesn't, some people it takes them three years to figure it out others it takes them three months. My job is to help them speed up that process by finding out what marketing strategies work and work doesn't.


3.  What are some red flags you look to avoid when selecting a new person to manage?

If I see a lack of effort or nothing to go off of then I won't work with someone. There are people out there with all the talent in the world but they don’t know how to network or establish relationships with people.   


4.  How has your management skills changed over the years?

I'm learning something new every day, A new way to market something, or finding a new platform to help one of my clients grow. The number of connections I've obtained over the years is priceless. I found an effective way to market any type of niche I work with. It didn't happen overnight. 

A lot of this was learning from trial and error, but now I have the tools moving forward to help any person that comes across me. I get messages from people all over the world every day, I help people all the time. It's rare that someone asks me a question that I don't know the answer to. I've taken years to develop my craft and get better at what I do. I'm like fine wine, I only get better with age.


5.  In your opinion, what are three leadership skills that all managers should have?

They should be able to Encourage, Motivate, and navigate any situation that comes into play. Any great manager should be able to do these things and a lot more.


6.  What’s the best book you have ever read on management or leadership?

“Good To Great” By Jim Collins.


7.  If you were writing a book about yourself what would the title be called and why? 

To be honest I think about this question all the time but I have no idea what I would title the book. Maybe in a couple of years, I'll know the answer but until now no clue.


8.  What’s the best book you have read in 2020 thus far?

The best book I've read in 2020 thus far definitely has to be “Sell Or Be Sold” By Grant Cardone. There are so many gems in that book alone that I took and applied towards my everyday life. I started to think wiser and effectively plan for the future. The book took me to the next level marketing-wise and got me thinking about how I can step up my game to the next level.
