Service95 Launches Book Club to Encourage Reading and Community.
Service95, a newsletter and podcast created by Dua Lipa, has announced the launch of a book club. The book club, called the Service95 Book Club, will be open to all Service95 subscribers and will offer a variety of content, including discussion guides, author Q&As, and deep dives into the books that have shaped the lives of authors.
The first book for the Service95 Book Club is Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart. Shuggie Bain is a novel about a young boy growing up in poverty in 1980s Glasgow. The novel won the 2020 Booker Prize and was praised by critics for its powerful storytelling and its insights into working-class life.
Dua Lipa announced the new book club on her Instagram on May 11th, 2023. In the post, she said, "Ever since I can remember, anywhere I go I take a book with me. Reading is an incredibly important part of my life and one of my biggest joys." She also shared some photos of herself reading as a kid, modern-day photos of herself reading, and even a photo of herself reading One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez.
“Reading a book is one of the most profound joys in life,” says Lipa. “Reading provides a form of escapism, a way to understand human connection and helps us navigate human relationships. Through the pages of a book, I can go places that I have never been and feel like I have lived there for a lifetime.”
